While semaglutide pills (under the brand name Rybelsus) are available for type 2 diabetes, as of early 2024, there is no FDA-approved pill version of Wegovy specifically for weight management. Research is ongoing, and JosephCareRX closely follows the latest developments—if and when an oral option is approved, we will offer it to eligible patients.

Both the injectable and oral forms of semaglutide work by mimicking a natural hormone (GLP-1), which helps regulate appetite and calorie intake. However, the injectable form (Wegovy) is currently the only one approved for weight loss, and it is taken once a week, while the oral version for diabetes is taken daily.

On average, patients using the injection have lost about 15% of their body weight over 16 months. If you miss a dose, our clinical team recommends taking the missed dose as soon as you remember—if it’s within five days of the missed dose. If more than five days have passed, simply skip the missed dose and continue with your next scheduled injection. Staying consistent with your weekly injections helps maximize the benefits of Wegovy and minimize potential side effects.
